Call for Director Nominations

Posted in

Five seats on the HAAAA Board of Directors are open for election for the 2011-2013 term.  Directors attend a quarterly teleconference and are responsible for: 1) providing broad vision and goals to the executive committee; 2) determining the budget and approving any major financial transactions; 3) electing the executive committee biannually; 4) reviewing the performance of the executive committee.

The directors whose seats are open are:
Eric Yeh
Yu-Han Chang
Vicki Chou
Kay Hashimoto
Henry Hsieh
This message is a solicitation for nominations from the broader membership for the next set of directors and instructions to participate in voting.  We had a great response last year, both in terms of voter turnout and interest in becoming a director.  We hope the same will be true this year.  HAAAA continues to rapidly grow and expand and now is a crucial time to get involved and direct the future of the organization.
The current schedule for voting is set forth below:
Nominations due September 15, 2011
Voting to begin September 22, 2011
Voting to close October 4, 2011
If you are nominated, the Nominations Chair will contact you to obtain a short biography and vision statement (total no more than 500 words) that will be published on the HAAAA website.  Statements should be submitted in plain text in the body of an e-mail.
You must be a registered HAAAA.net member by September 22, 2011 in order to vote.
The board will suggest a slate to members for the vote.  Its current intended slate is set forth below, but may be subject to revision depending on other nominations:
Eric Yeh (re-election)
Yu-Han Chang (re-election)
Vicki Chou (re-election)
Ed Park
Judith Li
Please direct all nominations, concerns, or questions to nominations@haaaa.net.  Any questions about membership should be directed tomembership@haaaa.net

New HAAAA Executive Committee

Posted in

The HAAAA Board is pleased to present the new Executive Committee.  At the last quarterly meeting of the Board of Directors, the Board voted to change the membership structure of the Executive Committee and also voted in the new members of the Executive Committee.
There are now two additional positions on the Executive Committee:  "Vice President of Operations" and "Vice President of Development" (the previous role of Vice President has been renamed to "First Vice President", in-line with HAA naming conventions).  The Vice President of Operations will be a liaison for facilitating growth in the committees, and the Vice President of Development will be a liaison for facilitating growth in the chapters.

Among other benefits, these new positions will help to distribute the heavy responsibilities of the President and Vice President, and also provide a broader leadership experience for those wishing to become more deeply involved with the organization.  They are a resource to all HAAAA officers as well as to the membership at large and we look forward to their contributions.

Please welcome the new HAAAA Executive Committee:

President:  Eric Yeh (president@haaaa.net)
First Vice President:  Jeannie Park (firstvp@haaaa.net)
Vice President of Operations:  Ed Park (operationsvp@haaaa.net)
Vice President of Development:  Judith Li (developmentvp@haaaa.net)
Secretary:  Vicki Chou (secretary@haaaa.net)
Treasurer:  Bill Yao (treasurer@haaaa.net)

Chris Lu J.D. '91, Assistant to President Obama and Secretary of the Cabinet, Will Give Summit Keynote

Posted in

Chris Lu, one of the highest-ranking Asian Americans in the Obama Administration, has agreed to speak at the Summit's Gala Luncheon on Saturday, Oct. 16, at Harvard's Faculty Club. Lu was a Harvard Law School classmate of Obama's, but didn't know him well until he joined the newly elected senator's staff as legislative director in 2004.

New look, some new features

The website got a bit of a facelift, and there's also some new features.  You can now login using your Facebook account, thereby linking your fb and HAAAA accounts.  You can also view past Announcements & Newsletters, and there's listings of chapter members available to registered members.   Also, new events can display Google maps of the event location.

We're still looking for a webmaster, though, so do email haaaa.ec@gmail.com if you're interested!

Integration

You can now create an account, and at the same time, let us know your graduation year, degree, and which chapters you'd like to join. Simple enough; it just required a bunch of back-end hacking to understand that CiviCRM and Drupal are more tightly coupled than I'd expected. Which is great. Enjoy.

Also, new members will be subject to approval by our membership committee from henceforth.

2nd day of our existence

CiviCRM and Drupal, which are the bones of this website, are working out pretty well. Drupal maintains the stories and the layout you see here, and CiviCRM will allow us to keep a nice member and events database.
